(Info is from socialdomain.com, a great website for events.)
Ivan's foodie freebie in the middle of a bad economy,

DEC 21: FREE MINI-BURGERS AT ALL MORTON'S RESTAURANTS IN LA, 5-6PM
Like burgers? Like smaller, bite-sized food items? Like free stuff?
Then today is your lucky day. All MORTON'S locations in Los Angeles are offering free mini-burgers, between 5pm and 6pm today, Sunday, December 21, 2008. The event is not only meant to show off their mini-meal deals, but also new drinks on the menu, according to the friendly woman I talked to at the Morton's in Beverly Hills. She said the promotion takes place in their Bar area. Advice: go early, since this freebie deal is only for one hour.
There are three LA-area locations: Downtown, Burbank, and Beverly Hills.
Here is some info for Beverly Hills, from the Morton's website: "Morton's The Steakhouse in Beverly Hills is now open and serving dinner 7 nights a week. Our new renovations include Morton's widely popular Bar 12-21 concept with its special Bar Bites menu and a new temperature controlled wine room, along with a significant renovation of our main dining room. Address: 435 S. La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90048. Phone: 310-246-1501."

RAMSEY'S AT THE CLUB: NEW UPSCALE EVENT VENUE OPENS IN TOLUCA LAKE
A brand new upscale event venue has recently opened its doors in the Toluca Lake Tennis Club. Since 1972, this beautiful traditional Mediterranean architectural building, located adjacent to Warner Bros. studios on Forest Lawn Drive, has remained a relative secret amongst the local neighborhood and business community. Though it has maintained the elegant demeanor of a private country club, inside its walls is a newly-remodeled event space, public restaurant, bar and patio known collectively as Ramsey's at The Club.
With a limited number of chic event spaces in the San Fernando Valley, Ramsey’s at the Club delivers a new level of panache to Toluca Lake, Studio City, Burbank and the rest of the cities that comprise Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley. Ramsey’s at the Club boasts three distinct spaces, including a glamorous dining room that can accommodate an upwards of 250 people; a gorgeous open-air patio; an elegant full-service bar; a media-ready conference room for groups of up to 40; and presents the option to utilize the tennis court adjacent to the space for a larger party.
In addition to its versatility, state-of-the-art sound systems, audio-visual equipment and sleek screening room, the space also provides in-house gourmet catering, and is open for lunch and dinner. Ramsey at the Club’s lunch, dinner and banquet menu, prepared by Executive Chef Jesse Genovese, a graduate of the esteemed La Cordon Bleu and former Chef de Cuisine at the Blue on Blue Restaurant in Beverly Hills’ Avalon Hotel, features Spanish tapas, Asian fusion and contemporary American cuisine made with the freshest ingredients and flawless composition.
Ramsey’s at the Club will service local businesses and organizations both large and small, including all Valley-based studios and production companies that no longer have to resort to Hollywood venues or limiting local hotels for hosting events/parties.

WOKCANO ROCKS SANTA MONICA WITH VIP GRAND OPENING PARTY; MULTI-LEVEL RESTAURANT/BAR WOWS CROWD WITH SIGNATURE DRINKS AND ASIAN CULINARY DELIGHTS
Event Review by Don Rose(July 29, 2008: Santa Monica, CA) If you are one of those ADD Angelenos who only has time for a two word review, here it is: Wokcano rocks.
Still with me? Great. Now for more details of the grand opening party for Wokcano in Santa Monica.
Hundreds came out tonight and partook of the wonderful food and libations passed around constantly by the very attractive and friendly wait staff at Wokcano. The Wokcano chefs were really cooking (pardon the apropos pun) late into the night.
The sushi was delicious (I loved the california roll, and another variety that seemed to be spicy tuna with cream cheese), but the tray that got the most play contained scrumptious glazed shrimp, spring rolls and tempura strips. The passed-around drinks were also popular. In addition to white and red wine, I enjoyed the liquid specialties -- unique to Wokcano -- with such enchanting names as Asian Persuasion (the lychee makes it a sweet treat) and The Last Dragon (Trump grape vodka being a prime ingredient).
Garth Trinidad, host of popular radio show "Chocolate City" on Santa Monica College's ultrahip station KCRW, kept the vibe pulsing on the 1s and 2s.Speaking of 1 and 2, the party tonight had two official "seatings" (630 and 830), and both were extremely well attended (when they said "be early" they really meant it). But most chose not to remain seated, preferring (as I did) to stand, roam and mingle in order to take in all the energy, and increase the odds of snagging the busy servers as they roamed the tri-level establishment.
But wait, there's more! At a climax point of the party, firedancers took center stage and entranced the packed Wokcano crowd. Before this review ends, I must give big kudos to Kim Koury (SPIN Public Relations) and Jenn Laskey (RedLight Special Events and Promotions); each of these friendly fun gals are experts in event promotion and production, who always put on excellent events and ensure eclectic attendees at cool venues. The LA Report recommends you get on their mailing lists in order to enjoy their future activities (Kim Koury: kim@spinprgroup.com ; Jenn Laskey: jenn@redlightpromotions.com).
The LA Report recommends you experience Wokcano soon - on a night not so packed, perhaps - and enjoy the many wonderful dishes and drinks that are both unique and delicious. The southeast corner of 5th and Santa Monica Boulevard is now THE place for great Asian food in the heart of Santa Monica. (Note: Wokcano SM is a great date spot, too.)

JUL 13: ONE BBQ CLOSES, ANOTHER OPENS; TOMMYRAYS SAYS GOODBYE IN STUDIO CITY, WHILE POMONA BBQ HAS "BRAVO" GRAND OPENING
At noon on July 13, there will be a high profile restaurant opening as Chef Brian from the Bravo TV show "Top Chef" opens his new eatery MATCH BBQ and Grill with, what else, a BBQ kickoff event. MATCH BBQ and Grill, 50 Rio Rancho Road, Pomona.
Alas, today also marks the last day for an excellent BBQ restaurant in Studio City called TommyRays. Here is the email they sent out:
We are sorry to announce that Tommy Rays is closing at 4PM on July 13th after two years in business. We have appreciated the patronage of all customers for the last two years especially the Studio City residents and regulars. The good news is that we have sold the business to a local restauranteur. In about 2-3 months, a new restaurant will open for all of us and the neighborhood to enjoy. As good neighbors, we wanted to make sure everyone knew of the change ..... Thanks again for your support and friendship.
---Tommy Rays

JUN 18: ROCKSUGAR PAN ASIAN KITCHEN THROWS LAUNCH PARTY IN CENTURY CITY; NEW EATERY OPENS TO PUBLIC JUN 19 WITH TASTES FROM A HALF DOZEN ASIAN NATIONS
Event Report and Restaurant Preview by Don Rose
(June 18, 2008 : Century City, CA) Tonight, the most spacious and lavishly decorated Asian restaurant in Los Angeles (not to mention the tallest and tastiest) launched in grand style, as RockSugar Pan Asian Kitchen held its kickoff VIP party, one day before it opens to the public. The guests in attendance were a vibrant, energetic mix of VIPs, media, agents, foodies, performers and celebs. Hundreds of hungry partygoers mixed and mingled within the sumptuous space, enjoying some of RockSugar's signature dishes, including a square curry-beef-in-dough appetizer, salmon wraps, fried rice with perfectly prepared shrimp (our fave), spring rolls, chicken samosas - and for dessert, terrific tofu cheesecake and coconut donut holes. Yum and a half!
Everywhere you went, animated conversations flowed as plentifully as the drinks, as the open bar and tantalizing tastes kept the energy level high (as did the DJ). We enjoyed chatting with Peter Mehlman, former Seinfeld writer (who now does, among other creative pursuits, very funny commentaries on occasion for NPR's Day To Day show), Greg Lindsay (actor/director who was a regular on the TV hit Las Vegas and has a new film he directed coming out soon), and Daniel Maltzman, a hot LA artist with a killer studio full of stylish pop paintings, known for graciously opening his studio for charity events (and who has a cool line of wildly styled wristbands, each quite unique and fun to wear).
The LA Report recommends you come visit this new and highly anticipated addition to the Los Angeles dining scene. Not only is the food fantastic, but the decor is as delightful and delicious as the dishes. According to OpenTable.com, RockSugar opens to the public on June 19th (for dinner), with lunch service beginning on June 21st. The blogosphere is buzzing about this place, which has ties to the Cheesecake Factory franchise.
More about the restaurant
RockSugar is an upscale casual destination from restaurateur David Overton and Singapore-raised, New York-trained chef Mohan Ismail (Spice Market, Tabla, Blue Hill).
