9 BEATLES CLIPS IN HONOR OF 09 09 09

Curated by Don Rose

Yes, 09 09 09 is upon us. Upwards of 100 radio stations nationwide are planning Beatle-related programming and events on September 9 - including LA's own K-Earth 101 at the Grove from 5 to 10am, and Amoeba in Hollywood hosting trivia contests, an auction, and tunes spun by Chris Carter - host of America's longest running Beatle show, "Breakfast with the Beatles" (which airs 8-11am Sundays on KLOS here in Los Angeles). Many stores across the land are getting into the act, opening early and planning events around the new Beatles product being released on the 9th. Yep, it seems Beatlemania is back, for a new generation -- as well as for those who woke up at the dawning of the Age of Aquarius and don't mind buying their favorite reel-to-reel/album/45/cassette/CD again. (But rest assured, it will sound much better, and the CD booklets are upgraded with more content, and early buyers get a free mini "making-of" documentary with each new disc.)

In honor of 9-9-09, I've collected 9 Beatle videos, presented below. The first two give an overview of what fans can expect product-wise (newly remastered albums, 2 new boxsets, and the first-ever Beatles video game featuring 45 songs -- 1 of which is a mystery!), then come some other rare and/or fun clips from various phases of the band's career. (I even threw in a couple of short, um, "creative edit" tunes.) Enjoy!

THE BEATLES REMASTERED 2009 PROMO
Title says it all. Okay, here's more: "On September 9, 2009, after a nearly 22-year wait, digitally remastered versions of all of the Beatles studio albums will be released... Each album will feature the track listings and artwork as it was originally released in the U.K. and come with expanded booklets including original and newly written liner notes and rare photos. For a limited time, each of the Fab Fours 12 proper albums will be embedded with a brief documentary about its making. The re-releases will include the Beatles 12 studio albums and Magical Mystery Tour as well as Past Masters Vol. I and II, which will be packaged as one collection. All 14 discs will be available with a DVD of the documentaries in a stereo box set, and a set titled The Beatles in Mono featuring 10 discs will also be released."
Full Article by Rolling Stone: http://bit.ly/r6t0J.
The clip below gives a quick overview of what's coming album-wise on 09 09 09,
plus snippets of 3 Beatles "music videos": Help, Hello Goodbye, Get Back.

THE BEATLES: ROCK BAND INTRO (Cinematic Trailer) HD
Visually creative and stunning graphics, especially as the trailer progresses.
I got goosebumps. Watch in HD for maximum trippiness.

THE BEATLES ON SWEDISH TV
Love, love, LOVE this one. VERY good sound - you can actually hear the vocals clearly. Those Swedes are so polite, they only scream during the breaks - how nice! Video quality is good as well. The setting even looks a little like the Cavern Club. The YouTube poster's notes say: 'Footage of a concert filmed for Sweden television in 1963. Songs are, "I Saw Her Standing There" and "Long Tall Sally".' One of the best early-Beatles clips I've ever seen.

THE BEATLES "EXTREMELY RARE FOOTAGE"
I love this collection. Simply gear. Stitches together rare clips of the Fabs with VERY good sound, and mostly decent video quality. Yes, you can actually HEAR the band's vocals on the song clips presented. There is also a nice press conference clip around the middle of this compilation, and it ends with "Let It Be"-era rehearsal footage of the Beatles working out "Get Back" and "Love You Blue". Must see! (Note: there's also a "Part 2" to this -- also fun, but not quite as good as Part 1.)

"I AM THE WALRUS" HD - PROMO VIDEO
Arguably the most avant-garde Beatles song ever (certainly in the top five). YouTube description: 'The Beatles sent this and the "Hello Goodbye" promo to the Ed Sullivan Show in 1967. It was also released as a B-side Single for "Hello Goodbye" in 1967. If You Choose to watch this video in high quality you will be watching it in 1080p HD with High Definition Sound As Well.' True, true: the sound and visuals are superb. Turn it up, blow it up, play on HQ. By the way, it says this was posted by "AppleCorpLtd" so, for once, it appears we are getting a clip straight from Beatle HQ.

"LADY MADONNA" HD - PROMO VIDEO
Lennon muttonchops period! YouTube description: "The Beatles released this Lennon/McCartney Song as an A-Side Single in 1968. This is the official video converted to 1080p HD if you choose to watch in high quality." Once again, "AppleCorpLtd" posted this, so I gotta believe it is the real deal. Play it on HQ and blow it up; looks and sounds excellent. Lots of quick cuts, funny shots, weird angles. MTV 13 years before MTV!

GEORGE HARRISON: "I'M THE MAN"
This quickie makes me laugh. What can I say. Love what the person who posted it says: "This George Harrison composition was left off the Revolver album as the lyrics were considered narcissistic by the other band members." Love you too, ProTools!

FORGOTTEN SINGLE: "I DON'T LIKE YOU"
Look, certain things get to me. Once again, this was an LOL experience (okay, LMFAO) when I played this one and then read the description: "One of the Fabs' less successful efforts, this ditty stalled at number 22 in the UK charts."

"REAL LOVE" (BEATLES ANTHOLOGY VIDEO)
This last one made me cry a bit when I first saw it. Wonderful clip-montage video. I loved when someone (Paul?) bends over to hug George. This song has the distinction of being the last official Beatles single. And the two words in the title truly sum up what we loved about the band - they were always real, and all about love.

ERIKA JAYNE MARKS RELEASE OF 'PRETTY MESS' WITH EROTIC CELEB-PACKED EVENT AT COCO DE MER

Event Report - Posted by Don Rose

On the evening of August 20th, singer, songwriter and dance pop sensation ERIKA JAYNE was feted with a very special event at Coco de Mer in honor of her newly released debut album PRETTY MESS (E1 Music) which features three #1 Billboard Dance Club Play singles including the current “Give You Everything.”

Special guests who packed the luxury erotica boutique on LA's ultra-hip Melrose Avenue included singer/songwriter Jody Watley, actor Michael Des Barres, authors Christopher Ciccone and Neil Strauss, Coco de Mer shop owner Justine Roddick, multi-Grammy Award winning producer/songwriter Val Garay, famed choreographer Mikey Minden, make-up artist and photographer Troy Jensen and music producers The Perry Twins, Dave Aude and DJ Irene.

In addition to champagne, delicious treats and provocatively dressed burlesque dancers from Michelle Carr (who embodied the store’s high-end naughty sensibility), the evening featured an erotica poetry reading from the Marquis Michael Des Barres. He included an erotic poem especially for ERIKA, the glamorous Atlanta-born, Los Angeles transplant glamorous artist whose music reels you in with her alluring vocals, catchy melodies and electro beats, not to mention an infectious taste of decadence.

Here’s a sample from Des Barres’ poem for ERIKA:

“In that glorious moment, in that true moment of connection and ecstasy
Your body shudders as she slips and slides beneath you.
Moves her hips to the rhythm of surrender.
You gasp as she performs for you,
yearns for you.
She shows you everything with no inhibition.
Such an exhibition of pure, tarnished, electric dirty beauty.”

Meanwhile, for more from ERIKA, check out this recent Q&A where she talks about PRETTY MESS:

The first sentence of your bio reads: "If disco balls, ecstasy, pearls, Studio 54, sex, crystal chandeliers, Purple Rain, and Crème Brule, could be whipped in a blender and made into a delicious pop-dance musical confection, you would have Pretty Mess, the debut CD from dance-pop s latest sensation Erika Jayne." Can you elaborate on your fascination with fantasy and decadence?

Erika Jayne: The world can be a harsh place to live in--I prefer to focus on things that allow people to use their imagination and feel better about life.

Congrats on your new hit and third #1 dance single “Give You Everything.” What do you feel is the special charm on this song—it’s connecting real fast with listeners in the dance clubs?

It’s fun and everyone has found that one person who captures their heart.

What are your favorite songs on the album? Which were the most fun to write and record?

“Beautiful” and “Pretty Mess” are my favorites--both are a little windows into my soul.

What inspires you artistically beyond music itself? Any films, books or other cultural stimuli?

Black and white movies and erotic poetry.

You have a fearless and bold quality to your persona. How did this develop?

Many hard knocks.

You love to entertain. What’s your favorite thing to serve? Do you have a signature cocktail?

Tons of caviar and the champagne flows freely.

If you were to do a private performance for anyone in the world–living or deceased–who would be in the audience?

Marlena Dietrich, Jack Kennedy and Frank Sinatra.

You have a great set of male dancers you perform with. How do you pick them out? Do you audition them yourself?

Mikey Minden hand picked the boys and I must say he did a GREAT job.

Who are some of your favorite clothing designers?

Alexander McQueen,20John Galliano.

How did you get hooked up with Sheila E. (who plays percussion on the sexually charged “Time to Realize,” one of the four songs Erika co-wrote)? What was it like working with her?

Sheila was working down the hall and I asked Peter Rafelson to introduce us because I’m such a fan and we became friends. Having her on my album is simply amazing.

You are a very well-traveled woman. What are some of the most memorable places you’ve been?

Hanoi, Vietnam was quite interesting. Tanzania was amazing and Managua, Nicaragua was the scariest.

What are your top 20 favorite songs at the moment?

  1. deadmau5 “Attention Whore” - Provocative lyrics on top of a hot track.
  2. Madonna “Lucky Star” - That’s my girl.
  3. Frank Sinatra “My Way” - Is there any other way?
  4. Eric B and Rakim “Paid in Full” - Rakim is amazing.
  5. Louis Prima “Jump Jive an’ Wail” - I feel like dancin’!!!!
  6. The Doors “LA Woman” - I’m an LA woman and I like it.
  7. Buckcherry “Crazy Bitch” - No explanation necessary.
  8. Patsy Cline “Walking After Midnight” - Tough broad, smooth voice.
  9. LMFAO “I’m in Miami Bitch” - When I want to escape.
  10. Isley Brothers “Between The Sheets” - My favorite place to be….
  11. Teddy Bears “Cobra Style” - Make me wanna party.
  12. Samuel Barber “Adagio for Strings, op. 11” - Pure harmonic genius and tragic romance at it’s finest.
  13. Motley Crue “Girls, Girls, Girls” - Being bad gets a bad rap.
  14. Edith Piaf “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien” - Brilliant.
  15. Backstreet Boys “I Want It That Way” - Pure unadulterated pop—Love it.
  16. Bon Jovi “You Give Love a Bad Name” - Love the 80’s!!!
  17. Queen “Fat Bottomed Girls” - Freddy always turned it out .
  18. The Rolling Stones “Honky Tonk Woman” - Brings out the trash in all of us.
  19. Notorious BIG “Juicy” - Gone too soon.

JUN 18: “BEYOND THE SECRET” PREMIERES IN HOLLYWOOD, WITH DVD TO BE RELEASED WORLDWIDE JUN 23

by Don Rose

The highly anticipated red carpet premiere of the worldwide DVD release of “Beyond the Secret" is coming to Hollywood on June 18th. The stars of the film, who will be attending the premiere along with several of the celebs they advise, include Bob Proctor (“The Secret”), Emmy award-winning motivational speaker Les Brown, CREATOR OF “BEYOND THE SECRET” HOLLI WALKER, Marcia Wieder (featured on "OPRAH" -- twice!), Paul Martinelli, Steve Siebold, Christian Simpson, Mary Morrissey, Mark Moffitt and Rickie Byars Beckwith.

Bob Proctor Les Brown

Beyond the Secret holds the tools to take the ideas taught in "The Secret" and put it into practice in everyday life. Fortunately, fans of "The Secret" will not have to wait long; the DVD for “Beyond the Secret” will be released June 23rd worldwide for all to enjoy, learn from and prosper from.

One of the main messages in both "The Secret" and its sequel is that the destination is never as important as the journey. This is sage advice that has stood the test of time, and has been a hallmark of many spiritual disciples. Another way of looking at it is that, while it is important to have goals to strive for, it is even more important to "Be Here Now" (as Ram Dass says), recognize the "Power of Now" (as Eckhart Tolle says), and enjoy the ride -- while learning along the way. Of course, there are many other secrets to be unlocked in the new DVD, which we can hopefully review here in a future piece.

One of the reasons we at The LA Report love "The Secret" is that it is about tapping into what is already inside of you and all around you in order to create a better and more fulfilling life. Hence, it can benefit every single person on the planet. And God knows our planet needs to get better aligned with peace and productive behavior right now, with all the myriad problems we face, so the worldwide release of "Beyond The Secret" cannot come a moment too soon.

The premiere event on June 18th will begin the process of getting the "Beyond The Secret" message out to the world, and it should be quite a stellar affair. The cast is a phenomenal group of inspirational speakers and teachers, and attendees will enjoy a Q&A with the cast, producers and director after the film screening. Since some of the cast members are personal advisors to (and/or friends of) well known celebrities, who are guided by what they have to say, several celebs are expected to attend the premiere.

Thank you to Lisa Jammal of LJam Public Relations for her assistance on this story. If you are with the media and have questions about "Beyond the Secret", you can contact Lisa at lisa@ljampr.com.

FEB 21: "TAG THE WORLD" TO HOST LA LAUNCH ON OSCAR EVE WITH HOLLYWOOD'S BRIGHTEST STARS

TLR Featured Event - posted by Don Rose

On Saturday, February 21st, 2009, Tag the World will welcome the Oscar crowd to raise money for their latest cause from 9pm until Midnight. Tag the World Charities will be having its official Los Angeles launch at Hollywood’s hottest new nightlife destination, MyHouse (6621 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles). In conjunction with the launch, Tag the World has partnered with the American Humane Film & Television Unit, known by its famous movie end-credit, “No Animals Were Harmed”. American Humane protects the welfare of animals on more than 1,000 productions each year and was on the set of many of this years Oscar-nominated movies including The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Milk, The Dark Knight, Revolutionary Road, Tropic Thunder, Iron Man and The Changeling.

Tag the World is a non-profit organization with new innovative charitable concepts. Its mission: to raise awareness and funds for world causes while creating a fashionable way to support charities. Tag the World’s purpose is to help many established charities under several main causes: Cancer, Africa, Global, Green, Children and Animals. Tag the World founder Robert Parks-Valletta has partnered with the exclusive designer Michael Barin to create a set of beautiful sterling silver tag necklaces that help spread the word about their unique cause. The necklace tags are antiqued in finish emphasizing the original handcrafted design. This unique style of jewelry is fashionable, personal, and will catch the eyes of many.

Every time a tag is purchased, the individual gets to choose which charity their proceeds will benefit. By providing this opportunity, that individual is able to help improve the world and feel as of their donation is going towards a charity that may hit close to home.

Proceeds from the event on February 21st go to Tag the World and The American Humane Society. Tag the World is partnering with the American Humane Society’s Film and Television Unit to provide a unique Oscar weekend event that attracts Hollywood’s most exclusive A-list clientele. One of the biggest nights in Hollywood, it will be an evening to celebrate and be fashionable yet also enjoy the ability to help others as role models through their own stories.

Robert Parks-Valletta of Tag the World and the American Humane Film & Television Unit are proud to have this event launch on such an honored weekend -- with event hosts Amber Valletta and Mark Walberg, two big supporters of the charity -- at Hollywood’s most sought after new nightlife venue, MyHouse.

Event Report by Don Rose, Los Angeles, CA : May 8, 2008

Wow. For a book signing, it was quite a party. Best Borders Books bash, bar none.

At today's creative colorful colossal circus-like event at Borders Books in the Westfield Century City mall, Charlie Scola proved he not only knows how to throw a party for celebrities and VIPs, but also for himself. "Party Charlie" was the man of the hour, center of attention, signing his new book "Party Planning Secrets."

Never had I seen a booksigning event totally take over a bookstore, with activities in every corner. For example, there was the closeup magic of Paul "Fig" Fegen; speaking of parties, Fig's New Years shindigs were legendary - his being the last place I saw Wilt the Stilt Chamberlain (as well as the only place). Speaking of tall, Charlie's party also featured stiltwalkers. Then there were the fortune tellers foretelling people's futures under a mini tent, plus old style upright videogames being played by happy kids, a spinning prize wheel for winning Party Charlie mugs, two bubbly blonde babes from Charlie's "Naked Catering" company passing out giftbags (yes, wearing clothes), excellent food (featuring Chinese Chicken Salad and other tasty bites), a couple of open bars featuring Absolut Vodka, a raffle of cool prizes... and, of course, a line of folks waiting for the chance to get Charlie's John Hancock on their books (all net proceeds being donated to the charity Make A Wish).

Judging by all the celebs in the video montage playing on TVs throughout the store, Charlie is a very well connected guy, but he is also the nicest and humblest person to talk with, as I had the privilege of doing a few days ago. We recommend you buy Mr. Scola's book, which will not only help you throw killer parties but will be sending money to a great cause, too. I just hope Charlie will pen his autobiography next, because the brief highlights of his life that he relayed to me (full of peaks and valleys that ultimately led to great success) sounds like it would make a great read.

Special thanks to publicist Teri Danz for her assistance, and to Charlie for being such a gracious guy. Kudos to both for throwing a very cool affair.

Rancho Cucamonga Map
San Bernardino Map
Sherman Oaks Map

Best Buy promises "Grand Theft Auto-related giveaways, but quantities will be limited." Which means going early is a good strategy (and will help you snag a parking space, too). Another Best Buy tidbit of potential interest to gamers or their parents -- the website Kotaku.com reports the following deal:

Buy GTA IV along [with] any version of the Xbox 360, and get a $50 gift card as a sweet bonus. If you've been one of those woulda, coulda, shoulda gamers still holding out on this generation of systems, it's probably not a bad time to make the leap.

We at The LA Report have to agree. Finally, the great gamer/tech site Joystiq.com reports that the videogame chain Gamestop "released a mega-PDF of every store (in the States) opening at midnight for the Grand Theft Auto IV launch." So now you have some choices for your Midnight Madness Mania Mayhem; you can buy GTA IV as the clock strikes 12 am Monday night (Tuesday morning) at Best Buy... Gamestop... and, of course, some 24-hour Walmarts.

CANADIAN AUTHOR CALVIN HELIN OFFERS SOLUTIONS FOR GETTING U.S. OFF WELFARE & PRODUCTIVE AGAIN; "DANCES WITH DEPENDENCY" HITS U.S. BOOKSTORES IN APRIL

Neal Public Relations is representing #1 Bestselling Canadian Author Calvin Helin, whose book "DANCES WITH DEPENDENCY" makes its U.S. debut in April 2008. Helin is a former member of the Canadian Parliament and a native Indian -- and just might have key answers our nation needs as the United States financial system continues to be rocked by a severe crisis.

In "Dances with Dependency," Calvin Helin, a leading North American Native lawyer, offers ways to eliminate welfare dependency and get out of poverty. Helin helps us understand, how formerly colonized populations have been forced into welfare and a dependency mindset. His message is a call to action to change our thinking so that we can break that cycle of dependency and actively steer our lives. And yes, he is 'politically incorrect' at times as he offers his key solutions including doing away with typical welfare systems and government assisted programs. Instead he would like to create more interactive programs that could generate business opportunities and jobs. His unique approach would be of interest to any taxpaying American, especially as heated debates continue in this election year. Plus, Helin's welfare reforms might just jumpstart our economy, freeing up billions to enable more of our citizens, perhaps even all, to enjoy the benefits of healthcare.

Helin is a straight shooter, unafraid to say it as he sees it, even if it means pointing the finger at his own people. His "Did our ancestors sit around eating potato chips?" continues to raise eyebrows, as does his "Every welfare check eats a bit at a man's soul!" The author is on a crusade to help the poor understand that the key to a brighter future is when policy reform meets individual responsibility and self-reliance.

Colleges and universities are starting to use "Dances With Dependency" as a way to explain fundamental Native issues and how social stigmas sometimes perpetuate a problem instead of solving it. Perhaps Helin's refreshing perspective and constructive solutions can bring hope to some desperate situations.

Helin is joining a new generation of Native leaders who are looking to put an end to government dependency and replace it with a return to self-reliance. He reminds us at every corner that we're headed into a "Demographic tsunami" as our poor population continues to explode while our economy implodes -- unless we reframe our mindsets and empower our children to seek and make their own opportunities instead of expecting them and waiting for them.

Calvin Helin will be coming to the U.S. in April/May to promote this book, and is available for Interviews by calling Roger Neal of Neal Public Relations at 714-883-0231 or by emailing Mr. Neal at prstarus2000@yahoo.com. KU AMBIANCE BASH DRAWS DESIGN/ART PROFESSIONALS AS WESTWEEK KICKS OFF AT NEARBY PACIFIC DESIGN CENTER

(West Hollywood, CA: March 26, 2008) The LA Report was very impressed with Ku Ambiance, a new unique store/showroom/designspace, located just a block east of the PDC (a.k.a. the Pacific Design Center, or the Blue Whale to some insiders), where the 2008 edition of Westweek kicked off today. Many Westweekers attended tonight's festive party at the new space, which lasted almost till midnight and featured wonderful sushi as well as delectable desserts.

Ku Ambiance just launched at the recent CA BOOM design/architecture show, and their space (located on Huntley, a few feet north of Melrose) has an open Asian-themed feel, featuring an eclectic assortment of beautiful items, from custom commodes to cool clothes to a varied array of handmade vessels and porcelain creations. (Oh, and cute bobbing-head tigers; one man proudly showed off a pair as he departed.) Unique is the key word here, as all of the items at Ku Ambiance are made in limited quantities and hence superior quality and craftsmanship. Every design/fashion/art professional should definitely check out this wonderful new addition to the Melrose design district.
